Take a few minutes to think about your favorite song and who sings it.
What does the song remind you of?
Why does it hold such special meaning for you?
Be prepared, as I might just ask you these same questions at the end so you can share too! 😉
I know you are sitting there, reading this and wondering what could be Christine’s favorite song and artist? Well, you might actually know. That is, if you have paid close attention to some of my prior writings! 😉
Yes, my favorite song is…
Offering by Third Day
Did you get it right?
My life has been so enriched through first hearing Third Day back in Sept 2013 at a Women of Faith Conference in Rochester, NY followed by one of those “God incidents” seeing that Third Day was going to be in a small church in Pennsylvania about an hour from us (that is me and Mary-Jo, my friend who attended the conference & most of the concerts with me since then, ranking up there now as my official traveling buddy!) It is interesting to note that that first official concert was actually the closest one that we have attended!
Mark Lee, Mac Powell, David Carr–three of the original four founding members of Third Day-making music for 25 years!
The furthest we have traveled is twice to Georgia, where the band actually originated and still lives. Doing back to back concerts in South Carolina and North Carolina is a great memory as well as throwing in a trip to Virginia Beach for another concert brings back such fond memories. Being able to share 27 concerts in three years, traversing a total of eight states, has been a highlight for me! Third Day, being a band and traveling for 25 years has taken a year hiatus. We are awaiting word of when they will start touring again.
I am so thankful for that Women of Faith conference that was the beginning of a wonderful journey being inspired by Third Day music, meeting other Third Day fans who have become friends, several great adventures to see them and photographs with meets and greets even being on a first name basis with the band members who are so gracious and kind! I have to give a shout out to their Road Pastor, Nigel, from the UK who also has become a dear friend and spiritual advisor especially when it comes to my writings.
My favorite picture of Pastor Nigel & me.
It is through Third Day and following them on social media that God ultimately inspired me to start writing once again, which birthed this website a little over three years ago! It has been quite the amazing journey that has helped me grow in leaps and bounds in my faith walk.
So, back to my favorite song….
Take a few minutes to listen to Offering by Third Day….
And read the lyrics printed below….
I hope the song will bless and speak to you like it touches me.
OFFERING
Magnificent Holy Father
I stand in awe of all I see
Of all the things You have created
But still You choose to think of me
Who am I that You should suffer
Your very life to set me free
The only thing that I can give You
Is the life You gave to me
This is my offering, dear Lord
This is my offering to You, God
And I will give You my life
For it’s all I have to give
Because You gave Your life for me
I stand before You at this altar
So many have given You more
I may not have much I can offer
Yet what I have is truly Yours
This is my offering, dear Lord
This is my offering to You, God
Well, I will give You my life
For it’s all I have to give
Because You gave Your life for me
This is my offering
This is my offering, dear Lord
This is my offering to You, God
And I will give You my life
For it’s all I have to give
Because You gave Your life for me
This is my offering
This is my offering to You, God
And I will give You my life
For it’s all I have to give
Because You gave Your life for me, yes
Because You gave Your life for me
Oh yeah
Third Day. Lyrics to "Offering." Genius, 2017, https://genius.com/Third-day-offering-lyrics
When I listen to music, for me personally, the lyrics are what hits me most since I am not a musical person.
This song makes me realize and reflect on:
–How in awe I am of all that my Magnificent Father, God made; ALL on this earth, even ME
–Even with all of creation, God chooses to think of me, I am so special to Him
–God suffered by sending His only Son, Jesus, to die for ME, which set me FREE
–The only thing I can do for God is honor Him with MY life; the life that He gave to ME
–God doesn’t want me to offer Him the “things” of this world; just my whole being
–Everything I have in this world is God’s and it is from Him
The message that I get from this song helps me keep a proper perspective on my life and how I need to be living it while on this earth.
Would you be kind enough to share your favorite song and artist in the comment section below along with what it means to you? Thank you in advance for sharing!
As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God! –Psalm 40:17 (ESV)
Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. –Ephesians 5:2 (NLT)
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice–the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. –Romans 12:1 (NLT)
As always, an excellent read Christine! I have lots of favorite songs for many different reasons, but one of my very favorite Third Day songs is Give. And the reason that I like this song, is that the very first opening lyric says: “You said all that followed You may find Comfort and pain, blessings in hard times”. So many times we hear that if God really loved us, He wouldn’t allow pain and hard times. But what He says is that He will be with us through those hard times, and will bring us comfort, and will bring us blessings. God doesn’t promise a perfect life, but He does promise He will be with us through it all, if we let Him. This song just serves as a great reminder to me of that promise.
Thank you for sharing that song, Jen! Yes, you made me listen to it as it wasn’t a TD one that I remembered. 🙂 That is a beautiful opening lyric and great truth that you shared….something I know I need to be reminded of too! I appreciate your reading and sharing!
I don’t know if I have a favorite song. I need to further ponder the question you posed, Christine 😉
Maybe a song that really “speaks” to you in a special way? I look forward to you pondering and hopefully sharing later! 🙂 Thanks for reading.
Thanks for sharing this! I absolutely adore Third Day and have since 1997! So many great songs to choose but one of my favorites is Cry Out To Jesus! In the course it says, “He’ll meet you wherever you are”, and just hearing that phrase reminds me that despite all the hardships I’ve been subjected to, or how low my ptsd carries me, He will meet me there! Hope for the helpless, rest for the weary and love for the broken heart, Grace and forgiveness, mercy and healing, He’ll meet you wherever you are, cry out to Jesus!! And cry out I do!!!
Wow….How nice to see you are a LONG time Third Day fan!! 🙂 It’s “funny” you mention Cry Out to Jesus because as I was writing this one, that song came to my mind as a 2nd choice! Several times in my life, I will go on a Cry Out to Jesus marathon playing it continually….such beautiful truth in those lyrics! Thank you for the blessing of reading and sharing, Savannah!
