It was a simple statement a friend shared over breakfast one day that sparked me to ponder the truth of those words more. Sharing that thought with you has been on my radar for a few months now!
My friend proceeded to share that this one particular baseball game one of her grandson’s and my youngest son were both playing, and where her and I were cheering them on, ended up being the last game that her grandson played due to conflicting schedules with other commitments. The grandson will now be embarking on a military career in about a week.
There are often things that we do know are a “last.”
–Graduation from school
–Last day of work before retirement
–The last child leaving the nest
–Final day of chemo or radiation
And the list goes on and on. When we know in advance of a “last” we have time to process our thoughts and feelings; maybe even plan for the new direction we are headed.
Isn’t that really the truth with everything in life though we often take things for granted?
Life really is full of unknowns, right?
We all do know in any instant something can happen that will change everything.
In some of these instances, we are suddenly thrust into processing the changes which might be more difficult because they were unexpected.
As I continued to think about that sentiment, it made me think that it is good encouragement to make sure we….
….treasure each moment of this life.
…make the most of every activity we do.
…appreciate even the little things.
…value relationships over material things.
…live life without regrets.
…forgive as often as needed.
…be thankful for each moment we are given.
…love God with your whole heart.
…let others know they are loved.
You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence with eternal pleasures at Your right hand. –Psalm 16:11 (BSB)
Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. –James 4:14 (NASB)
