A DECK OF CARDS

A Deck of Cards~~~

Did you ever think about how a deck of cards can remind us of the Bible and even help us to pray?

I will be honest and say I never did until a friend of mine shared a video with me where a magician was talking and performing a trick using a deck of cards. Hence this week these thoughts are expanded upon what was originally shared with that video.

I thought it was an interesting observation to share with all of you to see a cool parallel and help you look at a deck of cards in a different light.

So, this week’s thoughts could be another interactive post!  Guess what you can go grab if you have one handy?

Yes, the title of these thoughts was a good give away!

Want to go grab a deck of cards?  I’ll wait here for you until you come back!  🙂

In case you don’t have a deck of cards handy, here is a picture of one for your visual!

Look at that….so nicely arranged by suit and numbered sequentially for your viewing~

Let’s explore something important Biblically about each of the card numbers. I will only give one relationship to each number though it is interesting to think of  more for each number.

#2–The Bible consists of 2 sections:  the Old & New Testament
#3-The Trinity—3 in one—God, the Father, Jesus, the Son, The Holy Spirit
#4-The New Testament has 4 Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke & John

#5-Jesus turned 5 loaves of bread & 2 fish into enough food for over 5,000 people with 12 baskets left over!  (John 6:9)
#6-In the beginning when God was creating, Day 6 was when God created man in His image! (Genesis 1:27)
#7-There are 7 colors in the rainbow which God created telling us He would never destroy the earth with a flood again.

#8-When Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount, He proclaimed the 8 BEATITUDES

#9–There are 9 Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22)

#10-God presented Moses with 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17)

And…for the grand finale~~~~~

J–The Jack, representative of Jesus, the One that died for our sins
Q–The Queen, representative of Mary, the Mother of Jesus
K-The King, representative of God, our Father, who is in charge of everything!

Ace-I saved this one for last to stress its all encompassing importance….

Consider that it can sometimes be played as a 1, the lowest number,

or  it can be used as an ace, the highest number.

Either way, I think it quite fitting that the symbolism of the ace is that there is only…

1 way to heaven–through Jesus Christ, God’s only Son!
Yes, God is the beginning and the end~The Alpha and the Omega~

Some other interesting things about a deck of cards:

13 cards in each suit–corresponding to 13 weeks in a quarter of a year

4 suits–corresponding with the four seasons–winter, spring, summer & fall

52 cards–corresponding to 52 weeks in a year.

Isn’t it neat to see how everything in life is truly connected to God, the Creator of the universe and everything in it?
It is a matter of perspective and how you view even the little details in this life.
His Presence is everywhere and in everything!

The next time you play a card game, may you smile and be reminded of the simple parallels a deck of cards has to help you recall God’s goodness in all of creation, the reminders of different Bible stories and even help you slip in a prayer or two maybe thanking God and Jesus for all they have done for you~

The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens! Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?  –Psalm 113:4-6 (ESV)

“I am the Alpha and the Omega–the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come–the Almighty One.”  –Revelation 1:8 (NLT)
