What great truth there is in the good ole saying,
At a retreat I recently was grateful to attend, silence is one of the first things that is introduced and then implemented for the rest of the evening.

Have you ever viewed silence as a gift?
Think about it~~especially in todays technological world how many times do you see someone NOT tied to their phone? Someone not texting away, headphones in listening to music or a podcast, talking away on their phone?
No matter if we are riding on a bus, walking somewhere or even at a restaurant most likely we are engaged with our phones. With our fast paced living like that, how much room does that leave for silence?
We were encouraged at this retreat to just spend time in silence. Though it was dark out at this point, I couldn’t wait to get outside, knowing the lake was in the distance and just walk around….God and I.
What was very cool was the actual quietness that I did experience. When I first went out, I did observe the pure silence that surrounded me. After a few minutes, there was a single noise from some kind of critter and a few minutes later one from the opposite side.
Then suddenly there was pure silence in the dark of the night.
It truly was golden and I could sense the oneness of the silence, God and me!
I just wanted to keep soaking it up~~every pore of my being immersed in silence~~in Him!
I walked around, then just stood there with my eyes shut, just being…just being in the solitude with my Creator. What a wonderful gift indeed!
Silence and experiencing silence is a way to connect with God.
Silence as in just being~not with fifty different things going through your mind.
Silence as in taking time to be alone in solitude with God~not attached to some electronic device.
Silence with the Lord in the sense of not telling Him what we think His plan for us or our loved ones should be.
Silence is a type of prayer.
Silence ushers us into God’s Presence.
Silence fills us with even more of His love and peace.
Did you see it coming this week? That all of that leads to some “homework” for you?
I say that because I want you, too, to experience and see what a gift silence is!
I challenge you to take maybe just five minutes one day, leave your phone or electronic devices in the other room.
Find a place to go alone–some room in your house, outside, to a church and experience God in the silence. Just BE.
Give yourself the gift of silence….Take a few minutes to experience God~~Silence is golden!
A time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; –Ecclesiates 3:7 (ESV)
Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the LORD is near. The Lord has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated those he has invited. –Zephaniah 1:7 (NIV)
Be silent, everyone, in the presence of the LORD, for he is coming from his holy dwelling place. –Zechariah 2:13 (GNT)
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” –Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
Wow! I am certain God is telling me something… This past Sunday our message was on silence, and it started off by being silent for the first 5 minutes…. I have also been doing a Bible Study series on Loving God, Neighbor, & Enemy. The first lesson was on listening and being silent. Doing prayer for 20 minutes in silence. What a coincidence or is it “God-incidence” ?? We have such an awesome God! Thank you for the beautiful message……
Wow, Cindy!! How I love and smile every time I see these “God-incidences!” You know, I actually penned the rough draft of these thoughts while at the retreat which was almost 4 weeks ago! THIS particular week I finally ended up putting it together for publishing….so I think it is for you! God’s perfect timing!! Thank you so much for sharing; it helps build my faith and know God is so real! 🙂 Blessings~
