The sun was shining, accompanied by a gentle breeze, this one particular day when I arrived at my prayer garden. As time went on, a few darker clouds settled in and it became very windy. A few leaves could be seen falling from the tree branches due to the forcefulness of the wind. I would even venture to say the wind was howling loudly.
Can you see the effect of the wind on the tree and paper?
Prior to the wind picking up, I enjoyed the warmth of the sun beating down on my back reminding me of the Son shining on me. When the wind was at full force I was reminded of the Holy Spirit and the first Pentecost.
The calm before the storm.
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. –Acts 2:1-4 (NLT)
The next day as I was at a state park enjoying the beauty of the blue-green water starting to pen these thoughts, the wind suddenly blew through, along with a passing rain shower, showing its effect on the water emitting ripples and more ripples across the water. The greenery around the water was swaying back and forth from the wind.
The wind producing the ripples across the water.
Quite ironically, a few minutes later the wind died down making the water as still as could be. Soon after, part of the water became calm while the effect of the wind could be seen as ripples on the water in the distance.
The water with no wind effect.
The one section of wind effect with ripples, while other calm even reflecting the clouds on the water!
Isn’t the wind fascinating?
— You can’t physically see the wind but you can see the effect of it on the water, the trees, and you can feel the wind upon your face.
I think the way the Holy Spirit descended on the believers that first Pentecost is the perfect representation—a mighty windstorm filling them with the Spirit.
Indeed, the Holy Spirit in our lives is like the wind~~we cannot physically see the Spirit, but we can see the effects of Him in our lives and in the lives of others.
We are sent forth with the Holy Spirit in us to accomplish the Good News of sharing the gospel message, the love of God, the sacrifice that Jesus paid for us, the sharing of the Holy Spirit that now resides in and through us!
Maybe it will be like a mighty rushing wind reminding you of the Holy Spirit filling your life.
Perhaps the wind will be like a storm in your life. Remember that Jesus can calm that storm at any moment.
If the wind is like a gentle breeze, may it remind you of the peace that the Spirit can fill you with.
Do not let the wind steer you from the course you are on~~the running of the race with the Spirit leading you. Stay firmly planted.
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit. –John 3:8 (NIV)
When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. –Mark 4:39 (NLT)
We must stop acting like children. We must not let deceitful people trick us by their false teachings, which are like winds that toss us around from place to place. –Ephesians 4:14 (CEV)

Hey, Christine! My comments “echo” that of Jeff’s. Even though I may not often comment, I love the way you bring the “obvious” to the forefront to remind us of things, especially of God’s Presence in and around us in nature & in the people we encounter, and help us get re-focused. Your writings do exactly what you set out to do——they INSPIRE ME! Thank You and may God continue to Bless You and Inspire You! Love, Lynn
