One day while at my prayer garden, seeing shadows cast upon the cross, the brick wall in the distance, and even on the bricks in front of me made me consider shadows in our lives. As a youngster, yours truly was afraid of her shadow thinking there was some mysterious person walking with her!
Watching the progression of the shadows throughout the 45 minutes I was there observing and reflecting was a beautiful sight.
It was rather strange when I had my eyes closed for a bit, and then suddenly opened them and looked up to see no more shadows. The light was gone signaling the end of another day in God’s Kingdom on this earth, gone in just a blink of an eye. We know when we are in heaven the light will shine brightly forever more; there will be no darkness!
Thinking of shadows, made me check out Scripture passages that mention shadows to see what lessons God could be showing me as I observed the evening sun bringing another glorious day to an end. The passages that speak to my heart are those that talk about the “shadow of your wings” thinking about what our lives are like as we live in the shadow of God’s wings.
Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by. –Psalm 57:1 (NLT)
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings –Psalm 17:8 (NIV)
How precious, O God, is your constant love! We find protection under the shadow of your wings. –Psalm 36:7 (GNT)
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. –Psalm 91:1 (NIV)
Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. –Psalm 63:7 (NLT)
Just as a young bird instinctively seeks refuge, rest, and refreshment under the shadow of its mother’s wings, we need to seek refuge, rest, and refreshment under the shadow of God’s wings. He provides that in our lives as we continually dwell with Him.

In thinking about the shadows, I like the truth of knowing that the light, the sun that is needed to produce a shadow, is God Himself, the True Light.
May His light shine so brightly in our lives that we cast that same shadow into the lives of everyone we meet.
When you look and see your shadow on the sidewalk, may it be a reminder to you that God is walking beside you providing refuge, rest, and refreshment with every step.
Can you see my shadow to the left of the foot of the cross? No longer afraid~
You will rest in my shade, and your grain will grow. You will blossom like a vineyard and be famous as the wine from Lebanon. –Hosea 14:7 (CEV)
And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. –Revelation 22:5 (ESV)
Love this message ❤️

Christine, your weekly blog is a great source of peace and comfort for me and I especially love this one. It is so critical to this time we’re in. As well, we continue to experience just the normal passing of family and friends but it’s all so warped bc of the pandemic. This lesson on shadows spoke to my heart. Thank you.
Thank you so very much for sharing that encouragement and blessing, Sharon! I appreciate your faithful reading and am grateful that God is using these words for His glory to comfort and encourage others. Blessings to you and all your family~
I love the way you describe “The Shadows” and the comfort that it brings to know that God IS always with us. I also like the The Footprints 👣 in the sand. Thank you Christine 😊.
It is a great blessing to know God is speaking to you through this reflection, Bruce. I think we all need that reminder that God IS always with us. We have a mighty God! Blessings to you~
