PAINFUL TIMES

A friend sent me a picture of something fascinating along with a short text that I felt was too amazing not to share with you. She said, “Please excuse the awkward picture of my foot, but I literally just dropped my cell phone on it and look what happened. God’s love during pain!”

A perfectly shaped heart blood blister!

I am once again in awe of God! How could such a perfectly shaped heart blood blister appear on my friend’s toe? The words “God’s love during pain” echoed in my mind. What a perfect reminder that “God’s love during pain” is with us.

It reminded me of Jesus. Consider the pain and suffering Jesus endured, particularly during His death. Jesus was obedient in fulfilling God’s will for Him. Jesus had to endure pain and agony because of God’s great love for you and me! We can spend eternity with Him because of the pain Jesus experienced.

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real loved—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. –1 John 4:9-10 (NLT)

God loves you and me so much that He sent Jesus, His one and only Son, to earth as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. If we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we get to spend eternity in heaven. God’s love at its finest!

Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit. –1 Peter 3:18 (NLT)

Despite never having sinned, Christ suffered a brutal beating, hanging on a cross, and physical death.  He did this in obedience to God, so we can go home to Him when He calls us.

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son (Christ) and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. –Ephesians 1:7-8 (NLT)

It is the blood of Jesus that sets us free from our bondage of sin. God is full of kindness and grace, allowing us to have a way to choose salvation because of the blood Jesus shed for us.

When we suffer, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually, may we remember that God’s love is still with us. God never stopped loving Jesus, and God won’t stop loving you or me either! And, as my friend shared about the pain she was still experiencing the next day with her toe,  it “is but a mere fraction of the pain my Savior endured for my sins!”

Be encouraged this week, during the times of pain and suffering, that…
…God’s love for you is so great that He sent Jesus to set you free from your sins.
…Christ suffered a brutal death so you can spend eternity with God.
…Christ’s blood shed on the cross is a result of God’s kindness and grace.
…it is a mere fraction of what Jesus endured for your sins.

And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. –Romans 8:17-18 (NLT)
