HIDDEN TREASURES

Do you often think you are in charge of the events in your life? Truthfully, I like to think I am in control of things, but more and more, I realize and see God’s orchestrations in my life. When I see the beauty of something that happens, even something as small as finding a hidden treasure, I am in awe of seeing God’s divine goodness in the many little steps that occurred that led to that point.

A case in point was being in the perfect spot getting out of the passenger side of the car to see this hidden treasure—a leaf in the shape of a heart sticking out amidst the blades of grass in our lawn. It started with planning a get-together with a few people to celebrate the newlyweds, aka my youngest son and daughter-in-love, who were home visiting us after their  honeymoon. Some unexpected events led us to eat at a different restaurant than I planned, and an unexpected event led to the timing of things to see this.

I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. –Isaiah 45:3 (NIV)

The Lord was speaking to King Cyrus, assuring him that He was working everything out for him to be victorious. God was with and in control of Cyrus’ activities. He had a special plan for King Cyrus. God calls each of us by name, too, giving us hidden treasures in our lives because of His great love for us.

Getting out of the car to see this hidden treasure reminded me of God’s divine orchestration with all the little events that led me to see this blessing. As always, it made me smile and marvel at God’s goodness.

REFLECTION:

When you find a hidden treasure, be it a reminder of God’s love for you, a treasured friendship that enriches your life, or hearing the perfect song at the right time, do you realize the awesome power of God providing for you?

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” —Matthew 13:44-46 (ESV)

What is the kingdom of heaven like? Scripture tells us it is like the joy we feel when we find a hidden treasure in a field or a valuable pearl. We go to any length to obtain the treasure because we are so excited to find it.

My spirit was filled with joy when I saw this hidden heart-shaped treasure, as I experienced the kingdom of heaven on earth. What an awesome God we have who is always speaking to us!

REFLECTION:

Are you overcome with joy when you find the hidden treasures of love that God sends to you daily?

May you see the beauty and awesome power of God as He reveals His hidden treasures in your life. Try to be more aware of all the circumstances of your life as God works everything out for you. God’s plans are not always ours, but we can trust that they are always the best, even when life is difficult.

Be encouraged this week to…
…surrender control to God and see Him work everything out according to His will.
…see what hidden treasures God brings into your life.
…experience true joy when unexpected treasures appear.

Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.  –Proverbs 2:3-5 (NLT)
