It is an interesting term that I have pondered the last week or so after hearing it while conversing over lunch with a gal that I went to high school with. I am in awe of God bringing us together after more than a quarter century…we’ll just leave it at that! 😉
In school, we would exchange a casual “hello” now and then but were never really friends who talked much. We connected through Facebook a few years ago and I was intrigued to learn that she was inspired to write music and a script for an endeavor called “Ascend,” which explores the resurrection of Jesus. We connected back at the start of that when she had staged readings and it was quite the honor to attend the first performance of that last June!
We bumped into each other back in December at an event where she mentioned we should get together sometime to chat. Through some more interactions recently on FB, we made the effort to connect.
As my friend said, we share a love for our Lord that unites us. It was such a pleasure meeting for lunch to converse and share the Lord in us and our lives.
During the course of our conversation, she mentioned she recently read something that made her reflect on its truth.
Think about this…For those of us who set our clocks to wake up at a certain time in the morning, why do we call it an “Alarm Clock?”
Do we really want to view it as an “alarm?”
An alarm usually signifies that something “bad” is happening like if a fire alarm goes off.
Do we really want to start our day with that “alarm” thought lingering?
OPPORTUNITY CLOCK!
Yes, isn’t it much more pleasant to think of it as setting our Opportunity Clock?
Or you awaken to an Opportunity Clock?

Each day, in fact, each moment of every day is really an Opportunity…..
An opportunity…..
…to shine the light of Christ through the darkness of this world
…to share the Christ in us with other people
….to converse with our Lord and Savior
….to see God at work in everything and everyone
….to praise our Creator for His goodness
When you awake in the morning, what is the first thing that goes through your mind?
A list of the things you have to do all day?
All the places you have to get to timely?
Or do you awake and think “Lord, what opportunities await me today?”
What ways will You reveal yourself to me today?
What opportunities await me to reveal You to others today?
Are you maybe a bit more task oriented rather than opportunity oriented?
May I encourage you this week to start each day with the Opportunity Clock mentality and see what opportunities the Lord puts in your path each moment of each day!
O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. –Psalm 5:3 (ESV)
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. –Galatians 6:10 (ESV)
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. –Romans 1:20 (NLT)
Love how you tied this all together! May God given opportunities abound each and every day for all to awaken to!
Thanks for the kind words, Lori! You never know how the Lord will use a little thing to bless and inspire! Yes, may God open our eyes and heart to see those opportunities! Blessings, my friend….thankful to know you! 🙂
What an awesome idea! Can’t wait to share!
I’m thankful you were inspired, Mary-Jo! I caught myself needing to redirect my thoughts this morning as my feet hit the floor and it worked well! God is good. Thank you for reading and sharing! 🙂
I woke up to my opportunity clock this morning! I hate how I hate getting up in the morning 🙁 , and this helped a little 🙂 Now to see how many opportunities I notice and take advantage of during this dreary day………
That is so cool to hear, Barb! I think you took advantage of one opportunity already..by blessing me with your sharing! 😉 Thank you and I look forward to hearing about more of your opportunities tomorrow! 🙂
