THE SYMPHONY OF LIFE

Saturday was another bittersweet day; the end of another era.

It was the final Wind Symphony Concert for my undergraduate college gifted music major as she is a Senior this year and will be an official graduate in less than a month.

As I sat listening to the symphony perform this time, my thoughts were pondering how playing in a symphony can be symbolic of our relationship with the Lord!

With so many different instruments in a symphony, the conductor has the arduous job of making sure each section of instruments comes in at the precise moment in order to make the music sound just right.

What is key for the conductor in making this happen?

Mainly that the instrumentalists always maintain focus on the conductor; glancing between the music and the conductor’s queues.

What a great parallel for us in our relationship with the Lord!

God is the Master Conductor in this Symphony of Life!

Just as the conductor is in charge of ALL of the instruments, so God is in charge of ALL of this world.  His arms are outstretched encompassing everything just as the conductor does for all involved in the symphony.

What do we need to continually be doing?

Keeping our eyes and focus on our Creator, our Lord, paying attention to His leading us, His cues.  His Word, His presence, the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us IF we keep our eyes fixed on Him.  Are you in “tune” with your Creator?

For each performance, the musicians are given the several pieces of music to study, practice for days on end, and then perform to the best of their ability with the whole symphony.

Isn’t this a parallel for our life?  Each day is like a piece of music that we get to perform….learning from our mistakes, studying His word to help guide us, glorifying Him,  loving Him and others with all our heart, living life with Him to the best of our ability.

There are several instruments in a wind symphony….ranging from the piccolo, to the clarinet, to the bassoon, to the various saxophones, to the trombones just to name a few.

Each instrument has its own sound that makes it unique and special in its own way.

God made each one of us human beings, His instruments, unique and special with gifts and talents of our own.  With His creation of humans though no two of us are exactly alike!  That is pretty amazing, isn’t it? God does not have any favorite “instrument” either; no gift or talent ranks above another.  God loves each of us infinitely!

Think about how the members of the symphony first practice their parts on their own. Holding sectional rehearsals comes next so that the whole group of similar instruments fine tune their parts together. Lastly, the whole symphony combines to make the beautiful music, each performing their special part.

We have different sections or groups of people we each are a part of and work with.  There are our families, the people we work with, volunteer with, and socialize with.  We work with all the people in our lives…reaching out, touching them, blessing them, and helping make beautiful music together ultimately following our Conductor.

This week I encourage you to…

Keep your eyes on the Master Conductor!
Be His instrument making beautiful music with your life!
Be in tune with the Grand Symphony!

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.  –Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens! Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he has mercy upon us.  –Psalm 123:1-2 (ESV)
