“Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.”
Words that are said by our Pastor at the end of every church service; a powerful reminder of how our lives should be lived daily until we are called home to eternity in heaven with God, our Father.
GLORIFYING THE LORD BY YOUR LIFE- The privilege we are extended everyday on this earth to engage in, my dear reader!
What examples of glorifying the Lord by our lives can we glean from Jesus’ life on earth?
JESUS
One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” –Matthew 4:18-19 (NLT)
JESUS
While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. –Matthew 9:10 (NIV)
JESUS
From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” –Matthew 4:17 (NIV)
JESUS
Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food. The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?” Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” –John 4:7-10 (NLT)
JESUS
But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left. –Matthew 19:14-15 (NLT)
JESUS
Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. –Matthew 15:30 (NIV)
JESUS
A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. –Matthew 8:2-3 (NIV)
JESUS
After Jesus had washed his disciples’ feet and had put his outer garment back on, he sat down again. Then he said: Do you understand what I have done? –John 13:12 (CEV)
JESUS
Jesus said, “Forgive them, Father! They don’t know what they are doing.” They divided his clothes among themselves by throwing dice. –Luke 23:34 (GNT)
JESUS
A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.” Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother. –Luke 7:12-15 (NLT)
Truly the ultimate way Jesus glorified God was:
Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed, “My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.” –Matthew 26:42 (NLT)
After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.” –John 17:1 (NLT)
Glorifying the Lord by your life is the reason you and I are on this earth, my dear reader! Jesus’ life is the model we are privileged to emulate each and every day of our lives!
Our lives on this earth are a daily call to fulfill that mission with the
…attitude of our hearts,
…our actions
…the love
we share with all!
May we, this week, awake each day and let our prayer be:
“God, fill me with your peace. Please let my life glorify you! Let me be your instrument.”
Try to keep focused on that prayer throughout the day and go do amazing things!
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. –Colossians 3:17 (NLT)
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. –Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. –1 Peter 4:11 (NLT)
Thank you so much, such a great message!
So glad you were inspired by this message. Thanks for reading and the encouragement! Keep glorifying the Lord by your life, Mary Jo! Blessings…
Thank you for this message (and all your others). Lately I have been thinking about getting our final “affairs” in order. Not that we are in any health concern reason. We have 2 untouched gravesites (for about 30 years). I have been thinking of having a local monument company put in the required steel holder for cremains and the concrete holders for markers and/or markers themselves. I have been thinking of what would I want on the marker and my only thought is after our names and dates, to put “To God Be the Glory”.
Thank you, Sandy, for faithfully reading and the encouragement you offer. I appreciate you sharing and think “To God Be the Glory” is a perfect saying to put on your marker. It reminds me of FLN always saying that especially at their Share-a-thons. The group Selah wrote them a song with the same name to use! Blessings to you and your family~
