SHARE THE PAIN

Each day we encounter people who are hurting deeply, struggling to find their way; dealing with pain in some fashion.

In fact, I think it is safe to say that we all experience pain or some type of heartache at different times in our life. None of us are exempt. Continue reading “SHARE THE PAIN”

MISSIONARY DISCIPLE

When you think of the term “Missionary Disciple” what comes to mind?

I wonder if your definition of Missionary Disciple is like what mine was originally. The first thing that pops into my head is a person who goes overseas to proclaim the gospel message to those in other countries where the gospel may not be so prevalent. Continue reading “MISSIONARY DISCIPLE”

BELOVED

Beloved –  (Based on a google search definition)

n.–a much loved person
adj.–dearly loved

                                               ++++++++++

Strong’s Bible concordance gives us a little history into the Greek translation of the word BELOVED.

The word BELOVED actually represented  agapétos  or agape love which in the Greek translation equates to what we consider a sacrificial love…the highest form of love.

Beloved – (Based on the Greek translation)

adj.–with two special applications:
the Beloved, a title of the Messiah (Christ), as beloved beyond all others by the God who sent Him;
Of Christians, as beloved by God, Christ, and one another.

                                               ++++++++++

Where exactly are some places in the Bible where the word BELOVED is used?

Note: Not all the Bible translations use the actual word BELOVED, but the English Standard Version is one that does so I am referencing that translation in these thoughts.

One of the first New Testament references where the word BELOVED is used is when John the Baptist was baptizing Jesus in the Jordan River.

Matthew 3:16-17

And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”  (ESV)

God’s voice from heaven announced that Jesus is His BELOVED son!  Yes, Jesus is God’s dearly loved Son and is so pleased with Him!

In fact, rather than call Jesus by name, God calls Him, BELOVED! Wow!!

THE TRUE LIGHT

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

THE TRUE LIGHT THAT GIVES LIGHT TO EVERY MAN WAS COMING INTO THE WORLD. Continue reading “THE TRUE LIGHT”

SOAR

Do you not know?

Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. Continue reading “SOAR”

TRUE IDENTITY

Isn’t it easy to fall into the trap of thinking our identity or worth is based on how we “perform” in this world?

Isn’t it also so easy to believe the lies that we hear echo in our head?

I have found it to be true in my life. Continue reading “TRUE IDENTITY”

MARK’S LEGACY

In my humanness, my heart was saddened this past week with learning that a gentleman named Mark, who served the drinks on our soup kitchen weekend once a month, will not be ministering with us anymore.

The Lord called him home last week.

                                               ++++++++++

Yes, I am happy that he is with the Lord now and not suffering humanly in any way.

The sad part is that I will miss Mark’s physical appearance being there serving up the drinks when we work at the soup kitchen now.

                                               ++++++++++

I guess the important thing I can do is think about the legacy his life reflected and try to live out to some degree the example he provided.  We all leave a legacy by the way we live our lives daily.

Mark’s death has kind of hit me hard for some reason.  Maybe it is because of the ways he ended up touching my heart.

The very first post I did back in September of 2014, entitled An Unexpected Phone Call, was inspired because of Mark’s kindness. That is kind of cool to think about.  🙂

                                               ++++++++++

This past weekend we ended up working at the soup kitchen when it was not our regularly scheduled week.  Both the main people, who run it on our weekend who were away for a few months prior to this weekend, and I tried to contact Mark to see if he could help that day.  There was no answer on the telephone.

After we got settled at the soup kitchen that morning, two of us went to his house to see if he was around.  Again, no response.

Later that day, we learned that he had died the morning before.

A ROCKED WORLD

If I asked you to think of some times in your life when you were presented with some challenges that were difficult and not pleasant to deal with, would anything come to mind?

I have a suspicion that it would be pretty easy to name some of those times. Maybe the situation was hard for a short time and you were able to deal with them reasonably well. Continue reading “A ROCKED WORLD”
