DEAFENING SILENCE

I had the privilege of attending a retreat recently where God provided several blessings. I was renewed and filled with joy at experiencing the Spirit’s presence. One way was by being able to go outside to view the lake, the few colorful leaves remaining on the trees this fall, and the pure beauty of the whole area. The temperature was warm enough to not freeze, despite being November, which was an extra blessing.

Retreats are always a great time to be still with the Lord, as we take time to get away from the busyness of life and the often hectic pace at which we live. A favorite verse that comes to mind is: Continue reading “DEAFENING SILENCE”

WATER REFLECTIONS

The “Be Still” theme I shared last week continued for me this past weekend. I was grateful to spend a day in the solitude, being still, at Lake Ontario. I spent about eight hours on the shore with my chair, Bible, and notebook; it would have been even longer, but darkness started to move in. It was a wonderful time of just “being” with the Lord and reflecting.

The shoreline consisted of mounds of stones and some boulders. To get to the beach, the challenge is to climb down the various boulders and stones making your way whatever way you can.  It was amazing to see all the stones and the beauty of all their different colors, shapes, and sizes. Most of them appeared to have smooth surfaces from their travels through the water. I was overcome with the beauty of the shoreline and thinking how our lives are so much like those stones. We come in all colors, sizes, and shapes having quite the journey through the path of life. Sometimes we have smooth times in life and sometimes life becomes jagged. However, we are all beautiful too! Continue reading “WATER REFLECTIONS”

AN INVITATION

It was a beautiful sunny fall afternoon as I headed for a long-awaited weekend retreat at one of my holy places. How grateful I am for this place and the people who minister there who are family to me. After a two-year break from a weekend retreat because of the pandemic, it was extra special to be back.

Toward the end of my ride there, I started playing random songs from the 1,019 songs on the flash drive in my car. The last three songs I let play consecutively. The final song that played as I pulled into the retreat center was “Be Still.” Continue reading “AN INVITATION”

TIME TO BE WITH HIM

One blessing for me personally since after the pandemic started almost a year ago has been the privilege of joining in a weekly zoom Bible study, which is hosted overseas in Wales.  The Pastor who leads the Bible study has been a dear friend of mine since the Lord put the Christian Band, Third Day, in my path back in 2013.  He was the Road Pastor for the band and would accompany the band members on their bus as they traveled about holding worship and prayer time for them.  He would often also lead the concert attendees in prayer before the concerts.  We started talking back then, have kept in touch, and my faith journey has been better for it. SILENCE

Silence is Golden

The Silence is Golden theme resonated with me as I was viewing some pictures I took at a weekend retreat at a nearby lake/conference place.

I couldn’t wait to get away to view the lake and hike; just to Be Still observing God’s wonderful creation and the silence that can often accompany it. Continue reading “SILENCE”

BE STILL

Be still and know that I’m with you
Be still and know I am

Those are words from this song entitled Be Still by The Fray.  Take a few moments before reading these thoughts to Be Still with the Lord and be blessed by His presence through this song.

Take time each day to be still

Get away from the hustle and bustle

Even if for five minutes

Spending time basking in God’s love and presence. Continue reading “BE STILL”
